Description : Langkawi is a group of 99 islands near the Thai border on the west coast. Pulau Langkawi is the largest of them. It is
popular both with budget travelers and honeymooning couples. It is also a duty free island.
Comment: I was a female traveling alone and found Langkawi to be
ideal for me. I felt safe going out to the cafes and bars alone and it was so easy to meet people, both locals and other tourists. I found the Langkawi
people to be really interested in me and keen to look after me. / If you are traveling
on the west coast then don't go to Penang for the beaches, go to nearby Langkawi instead and you will not be
disappointed. Also it is an ideal point to visit Thailand from, ferries go to Satah in Thailand several times a day.
What to do ? Arrive at Kuah Jetty and take a taxi to Pantai Cenang. Check into any of the resorts along there. Spend a day on the beach get to
know the locals. They are much more friendly than in other parts of Malaysia and will want to take you out to visit the attractions on the islands
/ Relax on the beautiful white sands, swim in the sea. At night go to the chilled out
reggae bar a short walk down the beach from the hostel resorts on Pantai Cenang
What you may not like ? The black sand beach is just a beach with litter on.
The monsoons, although they are quite spectacular
Where to stay ? Pantai Cenang has a huge selection of cheap
accommodation. Stay in a chalet on the beach at Sandy Beach Resort for RM50 (twin room)
