The below table is a
recapitulative table of all the backpackers surveys we conducted or received via
the site's forms. Considering that most of the backpackers we asked did not visit all
the countries nor answer all the surveys, such a comparative table is obviously
subjective.

Evolutions since March 2001 :
- From the "backpacker's general" point of view,
all the countries improved their rates, with the exception of India, Singapore
and Macau. India remains No1, still followed by Myanmar, Thailand and Laos.
Cambodia took back its No5 position from China.
- From the "criteria" point of view,
most countries also improved their rates, with the same exceptions as above.
Thailand remains No1, followed by Myanmar and India. Laos and China overtook
Singapore at the No4 and No5 positions. Malaysia now rates the same as
Singapore, at the No6 position. Cambodia overtook Vietnam at the No9
position.
- From the "global" point of view,
only Singapore lost some points. Thailand remains No1, still followed by Myanmar
and India. China and Malaysia took over Laos, at the No4 and No5
positions. Cambodia took over HK at the No7 position.
- Update Oct 01 with the introduction of Nepal :
this country becomes the new No1 in the "backpackers's general" point
of view, the No3 in the "criteria" point of view and the No2 in the
"global" point of view with a satisfaction rate of 100% !

(1) "Generally" Rate : what the backpackers generally
think of the country
(2) "Criteria" rate : we weighted separately each
criteria according to its relative importance (number next to each criteria)
(3) "Global" rate : we multiplied the "Criteria" rate
by the percentage of backpackers who liked the country and those who would
recommend it to their friends. We did not include the "Would happily come
back" results as the
size of the country usually influences the answer.
